dog day afternoon

So Russell (8 1/2) tore his ACL on monday and he went in for surgery on friday. He had to have a TPLO surgery, so far the cost for everything has been about 5000! its been an emotional roller coaster week, nothing reminds you of your own mortality more than that of seeing your children grow up and/or get hurt. This week we dealt with both. Yesterday morning was Jonas' 3rd birthday... he got supersoakers and superhero stuff! and a cake that looked home-made (but we wont get into that). Last night we picked up Russell from the surgery center, and i have to say taking care of a recovering dog is much more difficult than taking care of a baby. We have to help him up the stairs to the potty, and his medicine makes him really really really woozy. I hope this next 8 weeks go by quick. we have the cast removal in a few days, then the stitches out in a week and a half, then a wedding, then a baby, then fathers day. i am exhausted just typing it.
Here's to smooth sailing.!

a mother to many

so mothers day this year was wonderful. i got pancakes in bed, then for lunch chaz made me toasted ravioli, then for dinner i had imos pizza. what a great day. monday  (thr 14th) wasnt as great. I woke up at 8 because jonas was up particularly early. I let chaz sleep til 10 and then we went upstairs to wake him. Russell jumped on the bed and yelped out in pain then jumped down and wouldnt move his back left leg. we all threw on clothes and took him to the emergency vet. the vet informed us that we had to leave him there for a couple hours for xrays, and we tried to take our minds off it... we went to bjs!, we ordered a super hero squad cake for jonas' 3rd birthday, and we waited. The doctor said that he tore his knee ligament and may need surgery, then sent us on our way with pain meds and scheduled a follow up for 2 weeks.
Naturally on tuesday we googled everything about dog knee surgery, and now we are left with questions, what type of tear? partial or total? can we just schedule surgery?
all of this happened and i realized just how much of a mom i am to everyone in this house. our dogs are amazing, and its time for me to move a mountain for one of them. <3

bedtime rituals

in the last post i forgot to mention that you also like to "talk monkey" and you have us talk monkey to you- whole conversations of just who ho ah ahh (monkey sounds). this post i am going to talk about the bedtime rituals of my almost 3 year old. When you take a bath it is at night and you loved these bath color fizzers with elmo on the front (i have to buy more) you would say that you wanted to add sesame place to your bath. on a non bath night dad helps you in the bathroom, you pee on the potty and brush your teeth and wash your hands. While you do this  make your bed and pick out your pajamas. as soon as you are done you run your naked behind into your room and proclaim "mom, i pee on the potty, i wash my hands and my fingers and i brush my teeth!" all while naked and smiling ear to ear. then you way to excitedly run to me and tackle-hug me. we get you into bed and read you books and do a 3-2-1 countdown to turn the light off so you can see your buzz lights night light come on. some nights you have us talk like a robot before we leave your room. on our way out you also warn us not to drop our phones or our keys, and "dont turn off the light" <3

time flies

Jonas is almost three. i am starting this blog to reflect on the little things that i feel one day may be forgotten. the last couple weeks you have loved being my kitty cat. you meow and start to crawl into my lap and then you rub noses and meow with me; this is one of my favorite feelings ever. You also give my a special thumbs up where we touch our thumbs together during the thumbs up- how awesome. and tonight, like many night you asked me to tickle your face with my hair before you went to bed. this and so many more things are why i love you and why i love being a parent, and i hope to never forget them :)
